What we collect
Your email address when you sign up, and optionally your name, timezone, test date, and appearance preferences if you choose to set them. We also record the questions you answer, whether each was correct, how long you spent, and your streak — that is the product. For security we log sign-in attempts alongside the IP address they came from.
How we use it
Solely to operate Route1600: choosing your question for the day, tracking your streak, showing your history, and keeping your account secure. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Your dashboard line
The short encouraging line on your dashboard is generated by Anthropic's Claude. It is written from numbers we compute — your streak, how many questions you have answered, your accuracy, your weakest area, and how many days until your test. Your name is included so the line can address you. Nothing you type is sent, and no question content. (The question chat, below, is the one place anything you write reaches a model.)
Question chats
If we have turned on the question chat for your account, you can ask follow-up questions about a question you have already answered. What you type is sent to Anthropic's Claude along with that question, its explanation, and the answer you gave — nothing else about you, and no other questions. Your side of the conversation is written by you, so please keep personal details out of it.
Who can read your chats
We store these conversations and the Route1600 team can read them. We use them to find explanations that are not working and improve them. Nobody is watching conversations as they happen: we do not monitor them live, and we do not review them on a schedule. If you would like your conversations deleted, ask us and we will remove them; they are also deleted automatically if you delete your account.
Who processes your data
We use Neon to host the database, Vercel to host and serve the site, Resend to deliver your sign-in email, and Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots at sign-up. We use Vercel Analytics and PostHog to understand how the product is used. Each processes data only to provide its service to us.
Cookies and sessions
We use a cookie to keep you signed in, and store your theme and colour choice in your browser so the page does not flash the wrong colours before it loads. No third-party advertising cookies are used.
Data retention
You can cancel your membership at any time from Settings, which deactivates your account and ends every signed-in session. We keep your answer history after deactivation so the account can be restored if you change your mind. To have your data permanently erased instead, email us and we will do it. Question chats are kept until you or we delete them, and go with your account if it is closed.
Children
Route1600 is intended for students preparing for the SAT. If you are under the age at which you can agree to these terms in your jurisdiction, please have a parent or guardian set up and supervise the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above, and give notice where the change is material.
